Our great American democratic republic

Ever notice, that anytime an educated patriot praises America’s democratic traditions and principles, some air headed ninny from the far reaches of the lunatic right will always make the knee jerk observation,  that we are a republic not a democracy.

If these mental midgets could and/or would read our nation’s history, they could learn PDQ, that we are, in point of actual fact, a democratic republic.

And, that a democratic republic is a far different thing, than the sort of “republics” found in China, Russia, North Korea and Donald Trump’s fantasies.

I always use the term “N WORD” instead of the racial epitaph it represents. Here’s WHY. I’m normally bluntly outspoken, but in this case, I use the euphemism “N WORD,.” because Black Americans generally object to non Blacks using the actual “N WORD” for any reason or in any context. It is my opinion that centuries of racial oppression and injustice — which continues today— suffered by Black Americans, has bought those Black Americans the right to be the sole decision makers on the issue of the use of the “N Word.”

American Black people have my greatest respect, my head would explode, if I had to face for a few hours, that which they are subjected to daily by ignorant, racist whites.

Support Your Brothers and Sisters

When I speak of rich and poor, I am using the following definitions. A rich person is one who can exist on the income from inherited or accumulated wealth without resorting to working for others for wages, salaries commissions or other remunerations for their efforts or energies.

A poor person is one, who depends on the sweat of their brow or brain for their subsistence. If you have a job, and depend on that job to support you, you are a poor person. If six months without a paycheck would……………….

I Support Class Warfare

I support class warfare. And, so do the wealthy. The wealthy have been waging class warfare against the poor since back when Ol’ Beck was a tiny little puppy.

Chattel slavery, serfdom, feudalism, child labor, our tax system, monetary inflation, most zoning laws, conspiracies to  …………………

Losing home and dignity to corporations

Medicare is single payer government managed health insurance. Medicare works. Medicare recipients love Medicare, because the coverage saves us from losing our homes (and dignity) to medical bills. Providers like Medicare, because Medicare pays the bills on time with little hassle. Ask your doctor, I’ve asked mine.

In ANY health insurance system,

Thirty states now have legal medical marijuana. Here’s a list of the legal marijuana states.

Ron Nesler New Harmony Indiana

I know people in some of those legal marijuana states. Several of whom I served with during my eight years of US Army service, which incidentally included 15 months in a combat unit in the Vietnam war.

I have chronic pain, from conditions directly connected to my military service. The conditions I have are common among ex Army vets and some are specific to Vietnam war vets.

These conditions are acknowledged to be connected to military service by the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Some of the ex soldiers I know, who live in legal marijuana states, have the same conditions and the same chronic pain I have. Because, they live in one of the 30 legal marijuana states, they are prescribed marijuana and marijuana extracts for pain.

Everyone I know, who is prescribed marijuana for pain, reports that……..

20 lies in my entire 70+ years of life

Ron Nesler New Harmony Indiana

I haven’t told over 20 lies in my entire 70+ years of life. Those few lies were in support of absolute survival or obtaining sexual favors. And, I guarantee you, I feel bad about every one of them.  Trump, on the other hand,  tells more lies each day, than I have told in my entire long life. Lying is his default reaction to any question either profound or of piss ant import. He just automatically lies, and everyone knows it.

Here is what baffles me. Why is this lying OK with Trump supporters? I just simply don’t get it. I don’t hear any of his supporters deny that he is a chronic liar. Instead, they just laugh it off.  The truth is, Trump is a moral leper, just on lying alone. Without even factoring in his dead beat debts, draft dodging and sexual assaults.

How can this lying not bother people? Do they want their grand kids to pattern themselves on Trump? Surely not, but who in the Hell knows, what these people are thinking?

medical marijuana for war vets

Ron Nesler New Harmony Indiana

During the Vietnam war, I was a Staff Sergeant E-6 in the US Army with a spotless record and accelerated promotions. I served 15 months in an artillery combat unit in Vietnam. I am rated 100% service connected disabled by the VA. I have three conditions, normally treated with medical marijuana in states other than Indiana.

But, because, I live in Indiana, I am forced to use other less effective medicines, some of which are highly addictive and/or cause liver damage. To the best of my understanding, the reason that I am denied medical marijuana in my home state, is because Mike Pence and other non veteran radicals fear that pot might have the side effect of causing me to be mildly euphoric. Or, that it might, as a worst case scenario, actually make me smile for a few minutes per day.

Mike Pence and all the other radical winger Chicken Hawks, who oppose medical marijuana for war vets, may kiss my rosy red enlisted ass.

Macho, Decency and Perma-culture

Ron Nesler New Harmony Indiana

Many Trump supporters, believe that flaunting all standards of decency by backing Trump makes them look macho. It doesn’t, it just makes them look incredibly stupid and morally bereft.  Being a Trump supporter is the political equivalent of loud boom boxes, big guns, noisy mufflers and 10 foot tall pickup trucks.  It impresses people, but not the way you think.

Here are a couple of links you might like.

Yes, I believe in God. I’m old, and I’ve seen a lot of things, that would make it difficult to not believe in God. The universe is seemingly endless, even though my pea brain can’t really even grasp the concept of infinite vastness. The earth is large and holds many miraculous sights. The seas are deep and mysterious and still mostly unexplored. Man creates technological marvels at a dizzying pace.  All of that argues for a creator of some sort.

Who am I, with my tarnished little flea bite of a soul and my pitiful little joke of an intellect to argue against what I see before me? I don’t do it. There is something beyond my understanding going on, and what the Hell could it be other than God?

Basically, I concede, that there is a God, and that it is not me.

That’s not much, but its enough to build my religion on. My religious practice is to make my mind stop chattering, (you might call that meditation) and then just listen for messages from the creator. I may be deceiving myself, that I am hearing the creator’s voice. It is possible, that I may be just picking up some  stray radio signals from old Jack Bennie radio programs. But, authentic or not, it makes me feel better to do this listening, and I feel like I learn some valuable ideas.

Here are SOME of the ideas, I think, I have learned by just tuning out my own brain chatter and listening.

  1. Human life is universal, we are all part of one large network, we need one another
  2. We are unequivocally the keepers of our brothers and sisters
  3. Selfish is counter productive, if you are selfish, you harm your soul
  4. True joy is found in relieving the suffering of a fellow creature.
  5. True joy is found in humility, arrogance is a poison to our souls
  6. It should go without even mentioning, that killing except in direct self defense, stealing, and infidelity, sexual or otherwise, are very bad ideas. If you practice any of these bad acts, it will come back to bite you in the ass, either now or later, and you will without fail suffer great misery for it.

That is pretty much my religion, and it feeds my spiritual needs. I ask you to note, that I have created my religion without embracing guns, racism, homophobia, or hatred or fear of anyone, no matter how different, they are from me.

I will also mention, that while I am NOT recruiting for my religion, if you did decide to join, you will NEVER be asked to give me money. That is a first principle of my church. Absolutely no donations accepted EVER. I think I have a better program on that point than either Franklin Graham or the Pope. I will never accept your money, not today, not next year, not ever.

Also, my religion is on line, has no scheduled services, and therefore won’t interfere with spending your Sundays with family and friends. You can golfing or go fishing or take the kiddos to the playground, without a speck of guilt.   🙂

Here is a book, I recently read and found inspiring. THE SORROWS OF SATAN

Not all Christians are bad people

Ron Nesler New Harmony Indiana

Remember when American Christians received a lot of respect?  Those days are gone.  Today, when we hear the word Christian, we think evangelicals. And the word evangelicals conjures up some ugly stuff. Evangelical evokes images of guns, racism, misogyny, selfishness and ultra right politics. As well as, uncompromising anti-abortion radicalism, and spiteful bigotry against LBGT people and immigrants.

Not all Christians are bad people, but the good ones seem to be struck mute, and letting the lunatic fringe speak for them all.

If you are a Christian, and you don’t like people’s negative perceptions of your religion, you need to clean up your house. You need to speak out against these radicals, who have hijacked and weaponized your once respected religion. You need to show some moral courage, and to always remember, Jesus may be watching you!

Wrestling with pigs in New Harmony Indiana

Ron Nesler New Harmony Indiana

New Harmony Indiana is in the very southern tip of Indiana. Way down in the toe of the Indiana boot. We are a rural agricultural area, and the reddest part of a very red state. But, our town itself boasts a good many educated, liberal, mentally able people. How some ever, because of where we are, we also have a good many Trump supporters in and around New Harmony, Indiana. These Trump supporters are a very determined lot, seemingly immune to facts. I am an optimist, who always feels people will do the right thing, if you just give them good information. But, it doesn’t seem to work with these Trumplings. The worse Trump’s behavior gets, and the more harm he does the nation, the more adamantly these folks stick with him.

No matter what ridiculous outrage Trump commits, these Trump supporters have one defense for him. It is:

“He didn’t do it. It’s fake news. And, if he DID do it, the Clintons are bad too.”

After beating my head against this obtuse stubbornness for a year, I have finally given up. These folks are impervious to facts. And, I am reminded of what George Bernard Shaw famously said about wrestling with pigs. On that topic Shaw said, “I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it.”

So, no more trying to force feed facts to the Trumpistadores. I’m going into iris farming full time.
