In 2008 Congressman Brad Ellsworth (D IN-08) sponsored HR 5729 –” The VA Spina Bifida Program Improvement and Expansion Act,”  The intention of this bill was to provide comprehensive healthcare to clients of the VA Spina Bifida Program, such as my daughter Honey Sue. The bill was passed as SECTION 408 of Public Law 110-387 and signed into law by President GW Bush.

For reasons that remain a mystery, the…………….

Dear Secretary Wilkie,  ………………………………….

Thirty states now have legal medical marijuana. Here’s a list of the legal marijuana states.

Ron Nesler New Harmony Indiana

I know people in some of those legal marijuana states. Several of whom I served with during my eight years of US Army service, which incidentally included 15 months in a combat unit in the Vietnam war.

I have chronic pain, from conditions directly connected to my military service. The conditions I have are common among ex Army vets and some are specific to Vietnam war vets.

These conditions are acknowledged to be connected to military service by the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Some of the ex soldiers I know, who live in legal marijuana states, have the same conditions and the same chronic pain I have. Because, they live in one of the 30 legal marijuana states, they are prescribed marijuana and marijuana extracts for pain.

Everyone I know, who is prescribed marijuana for pain, reports that……..

medical marijuana for war vets

Ron Nesler New Harmony Indiana

During the Vietnam war, I was a Staff Sergeant E-6 in the US Army with a spotless record and accelerated promotions. I served 15 months in an artillery combat unit in Vietnam. I am rated 100% service connected disabled by the VA. I have three conditions, normally treated with medical marijuana in states other than Indiana.

But, because, I live in Indiana, I am forced to use other less effective medicines, some of which are highly addictive and/or cause liver damage. To the best of my understanding, the reason that I am denied medical marijuana in my home state, is because Mike Pence and other non veteran radicals fear that pot might have the side effect of causing me to be mildly euphoric. Or, that it might, as a worst case scenario, actually make me smile for a few minutes per day.

Mike Pence and all the other radical winger Chicken Hawks, who oppose medical marijuana for war vets, may kiss my rosy red enlisted ass.

Firearms Training

In the Vietnam war, American soldiers carried M-16  rifles with magazines capable of firing 20 rounds without reloading. Some soldiers made shade tree modifications to the M-16 magazines, which allowed them to fire 30 rounds without reloading.

Today, any American can buy an AR-15 with a magazine allowing them to fire 100 rounds or even 200 rounds without reloading. This requires no modification to the weapon, as purchased. The NRA says the AR-15 is not a military weapon.

I have been a hunter all of my life. I own firearms. I spent 8 years active duty Army, with 15 months of that in an artillery firing battery in Vietnam. I have no objection to other Americans having firearms. I am a former member of the NRA. But, a weapon that can fire 100 or 200 rounds without reloading is purely a military weapon. It has no purpose other than slaughtering human beings. No civilian has any need for or right to such a weapon. The NRA is dead wrong on this.

If you can’t bag a deer or a bear or protect your home with a 10 round magazine, you probably should seek some sort of firearms training.

Using CBD Oil in New Harmony Indiana

Ron Nesler New Harmony Indiana

I spoke this morning with Indiana State Senator Jim Tomes, who represents New Harmony Indiana in the Indiana state legislature. I was surprised at what Senator Tomes had to say about CBD oil. Senator Tomes tells me, he is an enthusiastic supporter of the rights of Hoosiers to use CBD oil.  He says that he has worked for three years on legislation to make CBD oil legally available to Hoosiers. And, that he has used CBD oil himself for the relief of shoulder pain. Tomes also says that the use of the term “treatment resistant medical condition” in his press release would INCLUDE PTSD for military vets, who are not getting relief with more traditional medications.

Joint Statement from State Sens. Jim Tomes and Blake Doriot

Indiana State Sens. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville) and Blake Doriot (R-Syracuse) made the following statement today regarding Attorney General Curtis Hill’s announcement on CBD oil legality:

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 21, 2017) – “Today, Attorney General Curtis Hill released an opinion stating the chemical compound cannabidiol, more commonly known as CBD oil, and the products or substances marketed for human consumption containing CBD oil remain unlawful. The only exception are those individuals who are battling epilepsy and are on the newly created Indiana State Department of Health Cannabidiol Registry.

“There is still a lot of misunderstanding regarding what CBD oil is, where it comes from and what it does. CBD oil does not create a “high,” but what it can do is help those who suffer from multiple seizures a day.

“There will be legislation introduced in the upcoming 2018 legislative session to clarify who can sell and buy CDB oil, in addition to expanding limitations to those with a treatment resistant medical condition.”

A lot of military vets in and around, New Harmony Indiana support reform of Indiana CBD laws, so that CBD can be used for PTSD. I had assumed that Senator Tomes would oppose the use of CBD oil. My apologies to him for that WRONG assumption. Tomes told me that he feels peoples’ assumptions about him are often skewed by negative coverage of him by the Evansville Courier and Press. I tried to get a comment from the Courier Press on that, but I was unable to reach either Jon Webb or Ryan Reynolds by phone.

4th of JULY in New Harmony, Indiana

FSB WILSON-Higgins-John-McIntyre

It is 4th of July here in New Harmony, and everywhere else in the western hemisphere, I suppose. I am a pretty poor source of information about whatever 4th of July celebrations may or may not being going on. It is not my practice to go outside of my house, yard or garden on the 4th of July. So, I can only report on ………

2,4 D farm herbicide is the same chemical as Agent Orange used in chemical warfare in the US/Vietnam war.  Here is an interesting article about a recent "accident" in the local use of CHEMICAL WARFARE AGENTS IN FARMING

The use of chemical warfare agents as herbicides and pesticides in farming is epidemic in America.

The herbicide 2,4 D is sometimes called Agent Orange which is a chemical warfare agent. It is so named, because ………………….
