Using CBD Oil in New Harmony Indiana

I spoke this morning with Indiana State Senator Jim Tomes, who represents New Harmony Indiana in the Indiana state legislature. I was surprised at what Senator Tomes had to say about CBD oil. Senator Tomes tells me, he is an enthusiastic supporter of the rights of Hoosiers to use CBD oil.  He says that he has worked for three years on legislation to make CBD oil legally available to Hoosiers. And, that he has used CBD oil himself for the relief of shoulder pain. Tomes also says that the use of the term “treatment resistant medical condition” in his press release would INCLUDE PTSD for military vets, who are not getting relief with more traditional medications.

HERE IS SENATOR TOMES’ PRESS RELEASE ON CBD OIL

Joint Statement from State Sens. Jim Tomes and Blake Doriot

Indiana State Sens. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville) and Blake Doriot (R-Syracuse) made the following statement today regarding Attorney General Curtis Hill’s announcement on CBD oil legality:

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 21, 2017) – “Today, Attorney General Curtis Hill released an opinion stating the chemical compound cannabidiol, more commonly known as CBD oil, and the products or substances marketed for human consumption containing CBD oil remain unlawful. The only exception are those individuals who are battling epilepsy and are on the newly created Indiana State Department of Health Cannabidiol Registry.

“There is still a lot of misunderstanding regarding what CBD oil is, where it comes from and what it does. CBD oil does not create a “high,” but what it can do is help those who suffer from multiple seizures a day.

“There will be legislation introduced in the upcoming 2018 legislative session to clarify who can sell and buy CDB oil, in addition to expanding limitations to those with a treatment resistant medical condition.”

END OF PRESS RELEASE

A lot of military vets in and around, New Harmony Indiana support reform of Indiana CBD laws, so that CBD can be used for PTSD. I had assumed that Senator Tomes would oppose the use of CBD oil. My apologies to him for that WRONG assumption. Tomes told me that he feels peoples’ assumptions about him are often skewed by negative coverage of him by the Evansville Courier and Press. I tried to get a comment from the Courier Press on that, but I was unable to reach either Jon Webb or Ryan Reynolds by phone.
